Tata Hexa Vs Honda BR-V: 7-seater face-off
In the current Indian car market, the line between the SUVs, MPVs and even city cars are getting very obscure. There was once a time, when a SUV used to look all beefy and tough, while an MPV will not have that tough look but have softer features along with large seating capacity, and the city car would look nothing like the other two being diminutive and cute looking. However, at present we have the mini SUV’s that are the amalgamations of smart looking city car and a SUV, there are sporty MPV’s with SUV-like features and then again SUV’s which have certain MPV-ish characteristics. Getting all mixed up? Well, no need to get all worked up, as these amalgamations are certainly offering great new car models in the Indian utility vehicle segments. And we love them, most of them.
Here, we are going to compare two such examples, both of which are rather large compact SUV models, but have some MPV like characteristics. These are the new Honda BR-V that launched earlier this year and the new upcoming Tata Hexa, which is likely to launch in the soon approaching festive season. The BR-V is a 7-seater model, while the Hexa is also expected to be the same to make these two compact SUVs even more similar.
So, here’s a look at how the upcoming new Tata Hexa is going to fair against the new Honda BR-V.
Tata Hexa Vs Honda BR-V:
Styling
Looks matter a whole lot when it comes to a car’s market success. And when styling is concerned, then both the Honda BR-V and the upcoming Tata Hexa are certainly good looking vehicles. However, in terms of proportions, sportiness and SUV stance, the Hexa is surely much ahead of the BR-V.
The Tata Hexa gets matured and edgy design language for which its concept model created a huge buzz in the first place. The Hexa gets an all over looks design and looks every bit of an aggressive SUV model with its beefy and butch exterior visual appeal. It gets sharp and strong styling elements all over and completely opposite of the rounded, smooth flowing design philosophy. And yet, in some features the Hexa despite being an aggressive looking SUV possess some MPV traits.
On the other hand, the Honda BR-V looks more of an MPV than an SUV. Its bold and stylish looks are a bit marred by its stretchy structure which makes it look very similar to its MPV sibling Mobilio. The BR-V features a very bold and highly stylized front face, a sculpted rear, but a very familiar Mobilio-like side profile. Despite being criticized by some for its very MPV-ish looks, the BR-V is certainly a looker.
Under the Hood Specifications
The new Tata Hexa will come equipped with a 2.2 liter VariCOR diesel motor that is expected to pump out a max power output of 154 bhp and 400 Nm of top torque. This mill will be paired to a 6 speed manual transmission along with a 6 speed automatic transmission gearbox choice.
The Honda BR-V compact SUV is available in the Indian car market in both petrol and diesel versions which are powered by a 1.5-liter petrol and a 1.5-liter diesel mills. The petrol motor has the capability to deliver a peak power output of 117 bhp and 145 Nm of top torque. On the other hand, the diesel motor is good to generate a max power of 99 bhp and a peak torque of 200 Nm. Both the engines come mated to a 5 speed manual transmission gearbox as standard, while the petrol mill also offers a CVT automatic transmission.
Cabin & Features
The upcoming new Tata Hexa SUV will be coming packed with an array of premium features along with a spacious and plush cabin. The new SUV’s features list will include a 5-inch touchscreen infotainment system from Harman, JBL audio system with 10 speakers, ambient lighting and much more. While the Hexa’s safety features will includes 6 airbags, ABS, EBD and many more.
The Honda BR-V gets a magnanimously specious cabin which is comes biggest advantage and also its biggest buy-point. It’s great, roomy interiors really offer a very pleasant appeal for a large family who wish to travel in style and comfort. The BR-V’s cabin design is neat and nice, but it could have been better, especially with its materials as the expectations are high from Honda cars. However, the Hexa’s interiors and fit and finish are yet to be judged. The Honda BR-V’s feature list includes keyless entry, automatic air conditioning system, but it lacks a touchscreen infotainment system and navigation which is another disappointment. The BR-V comes braced with standard dual airbags on all its variants, but its safety quotient is also not very high.
Safety
Indian car major Tata Motors has paid good attention on the safety quotient of it’s soon to launch Hexa compact SUV model. The vehicle is going to offer a solid safety aspect with 6 airbags, ABS along with EBD and Electronic Stability Program (ESP).
The Honda BR-V SUV features dual front airbags across all the models along with ABS and EBD.
Final Words
The Tata Hexa looks really handsome and seems to be highly promising based on whatever info is there as of now, while the rest will be known when it launches soon in the market. As the Hexa scores big in terms of looks, features, performance and safety, it is expected to offer a tough competition to the other SUVs and even MPV models in India, while it certainly seems to be ahead of the Honda BR-V in most aspects.
Despite being criticized as an MPV and stretchy rather oddly proportionate structure, the Honda BR-V is certainly a stylish vehicle and offers a good value for money proposition for anyone who is looking to have a great amount of space and standard features in rather affordable price range. Moreover, you can never deny the appeal of the Honda brand name for the Indian car buyers.
