Parthiv Patel replaces Wriddhiman Saha for third England Test
Parthiv Patel has been brought in as replacement for the injured Wriddhiman Saha for the third Test of the India-England series. Saha strained his left thigh during the second Test in Visakhapatnam and will not be able to make a mark in the third Test to avoid aggravating the injury.
This will be Parthiv’s first Test match in eight years and his first international game after four years. The Gujarat Ranji players’ last Test was against Sri Lanka in 2008 and his last international contest was an ODI also against Sri Lanka in 2012 in Australia.
A brief statement by BCCI said, “As a precautionary measure, Saha has been advised rest and will not play in the next Test match of the series. Parthiv Patel will replace Saha in the Indian team for the third Test.” Patel has an experience of 20 Tests under his belt with 683 runs to his name at an average of 29.69.
Most recently, Parthiv Patel has been amongst the runs for Gujarat in the Ranji Trophy scoring 61, 53, 60, 21, 49 and 139* in the last six innings.
Away from the domestic scene, Parthiv plays for the Mumbai Indians in the Indian Premier League. Given Saha’s form, it looks unlikely that it would open doors for Parthiv in the return to the national team on a full time basis.
