Masoom, Henna, Judaai actor Saeed Jaffrey passes away at 86

Veteran Bollywood actor Saeed Jaffery has passed away. The actor, who is known for his performances in both Indian and international cinema, was 86-years-old. His niece, Shaheen Aggarwal, shared the news of his death on her Facebook account. She posted:

“Today, a generation of Jaffreys has passed away. Saeed Jaffrey has joined his brothers and sister and is rejoicing in the lap of his Heavenly Father, eternally. The entire Jaffrey Family bids you, adieu, you beautiful, beautiful man See you in heaven!”

The veteran actor impressed audiences with his strong performances in films like Gandhi (1982), Masoom (1983), Henna (1991), Ram Teri Ganga Maili (1985), Judaai (1997), Ajooba (1991), Shatranj Ke Khiladi (1997), Ram Lakhan (1989) among others.

He played himself in his last Bollywood film, Bhavishya: The Future (2006).

Born in Punjab in 1929, Jaffrey completed his education from ST high school, Aligarh Muslim University, Wynberg Allen School, St George’s College, Mussoorie, and Allahabad University. He later attended the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in London. Jaffrey also went to the United States on a Fulbright scholarship, where he took a second post-graduate degree in drama from The Catholic University of America.

He is survived by his spouse Jennifer Jaffrey. He parted ways with his ex-wife Madhur Jaffrey in 1965 with whom he has three daughters Meera, Zia and Sakina Jaffrey
