Kong: Skull Island trailer teases return of the king
King Kong is back in a big way in the new trailer for Kong: Skull Island, Legendary and Warner Bros.’s action-adventure movie exploring the mysterious homeland of the colossal ape.
Set in the 1970s, the film stars Tom Hiddleston as a former tracker for the British SAS and Brie Larson as a war photographer who’s seen her share of danger and disaster — but nothing could prepare them for the flora and fauna of Skull Island in the South Pacific.
Among the perils glimpsed in the trailer, which Hiddleston helped debut on a visit to Jimmy Kimmel Live Wednesday night, are enormous reptile-like “skull crawlers,” as costar and comedic relief John C. Reilly describes them, and John Goodman’s explorer who needs “proof monsters exist,” and of course Kong himself. True to the word of director Jordan Vogt-Roberts (The Kings of Summer), Skull Island does appear to feature “the biggest Kong that you’ve seen on screen.” He rips helicopters right out of the sky and rules over the island with a towering presence.
