Super Singh is an Punjab movie starring Diljit Dosanjh and Sonam Bajwa in prominent roles.

It’s a childhood dream come true for Anurag Singh. “I always wanted to see a turbaned Punjabi superhero,” says the lanky director of Super Singh, who traces his roots to Jalandhar.

The challenge was to come up with a Punjabi superhero who was no less than his Hollywood counterparts,” says Anurag, who says he was toying with the script much before Tiger Shroff ’s Flying Jatt came on the scene. Super Singh, played by Diljit Dosanjh, is as Punjabi as can be. “He is a desi superman rooted in Punjabi culture. So you see him in a rustic setting, at home with rotiyaan and buffaloes,” says Anurag.

But he has one unique power that catapults him into the league of world-class super heroes. “And for that, you have to watch the film,” says Anurag.

The making of this dream project wasn’t easy. For one, it required a mega budget. For this, Singh joined hands with Pawan Gill and the Balaji Films to float his production house called Brat Films.

Shot in Montreal and Amritsar, the film is high on romance and entertainment.

The doe-eyed Sonam Bajwa provides the romance. For Sonam, it’s been quite journey from her maiden film “All the Best” in 2012. Born and raised on her father’s farm in Uttarakhand, Sonam had never been to Punjab until she signed her first film. “I was fluent in Punjabi but Punjabi films were never on my agenda,” she says. She just wanted to be Miss India, a goal that led her to take up the job of an air hostess in Mumbai.

Though the crown eluded her, she bagged a Punjabi film. “I was still not clear whether I would carry on acting until Anurag cast me in Punjab 1984,” she says.

That she is quite chuffed at being cast as the Super Singh’s romantic interest is evident as she invites everyone to watch the film. After all, there can’t be a Super Singh without a super audience, can there?
