Its been 8 years since Magik have performed. Come be a part of their musical journey to find out what brings them back on the stage. Relive the Magik.

Rock On 2 movie cast: Farhan Akhtar, Shraddha Kapoor, Arjun Rampal, Purab Kohli, Shashank Arora
Rock On 2 movie director: Shujat Saudagar

It has been eight years since Rock On created Magik with the star cast of Farhan Akhtar, Arjun Rampal, Purab Kohli and Luke Kenny. As the film ended, Luke was dead and the band members were together again.

Now that the sequel to the film, Rock On 2, is amidst us, there is a breach again between the friends. The film opens with a rather exasperated KD (Purab Kohli) telling us about what has gone wrong. Aditya (Farhan Akhtar) has left the band and is now living in Meghalaya. A recluse now, stage and the rock star life are things he has firmly put in the past.

Joe (Arjun Rampal) is doing well for himself. A nightclub owner and reality show judge, he is living the high life. There are new entrants too — Shraddha Kapoor’s Jia and Shashank Arora. Shraddha is a tortured soul herself and the reason is her struggle with her classical musician dad.

What they all lack in their life is, however, Magik. If one tries to remember Rock On, you first think of its music — whether it was the Rock On theme song, the quirky Sindbad the Sailor, the romantic Ye Tumhari Meri or the whimsical Socha Hai. Rock On 2 has just failed to spin it. None of the songs has managed to capture the imagination of people like the original soundtrack.

The film’s script is also trying to do too much — give a message, give a sense of new characters and suffuse music with the script. But if you are a Rock On fan, will any of this matter?
