Maruti Suzuki Ignis: All You Need to Know

We have mentioned in our earlier reports that Maruti Suzuki Ignis, the much awaited sub-compact sedan from the Indo-Japanese carmaker, will go on sale in India in late-2016. With just moths to go, Maruti Suzuki India is leaving no stone unturned to get the car ready for the festive season launch. The car has been spotted testing in India on various occasions and there is a lot that have been revealed about the car. Based on the information we have gathered, here’s everything you need to know about the soon-to-be-launched Marut Suzuki Ignis.

1. The Ignis will be the first sub-4 metre crossover car to be launched by Maruti Suzuki in India.

2. Maruti Suzuki Ignis is expected to be launched in India in late-2016, during the festive season. Maruti will also launch the performance-spec Baleno RS during the same period.

3. Judging by the lack of production-ready parts seen in the test mules since its unveiling at the 2016 Auto Expo, it’s clear that Maruti still a long way to go before the car is ready to be launched in India, later this year.

4. With Baleno and Vitara Brezza currently being high in demand, Maruti is trying to ramp up their production to finish pending orders and make way for the Ignis. That said, we expect the car to be manufactured in Suzuki’s upcoming plant in Sanand, Gujarat instead of Maruti’s Manesar plant.

5. The Japanese-spec Suzuki Ignis like – 4-Wheel-Drive (4WD) system, hill decent control, Suzuki’s adaptive Dual Camera Breaking system (DCBS), lane management system, along with front, rear and side camera for parking assist. Most of these are expected to be offered with the Indian-spec model as well.

6. On safety front, Maruti Suzuki Ignis is likely to come with ABS and EBD as standard feature along with driver and co-passenger airbag as option right from the base variant onwards.

7. In terms of powertrain options, the Ignis is expected to the powered by the 1.3-litre DDiS diesel engine that also does duty on the Vitara Brezza along with the 1.2-litre petrol that is paired to the Baleno.

8. Transmission duties in the Ignis will be taken care of by Maruti’s tried and tested 5-speed manual gearbox along with the option of an automatic transmission as well.

9. Dimensionally, the Ignis measures 3,700mm in length, 1,660mm in width, and 1,595mm in height. The wheelbase spans 2,435mm, while the ground clearance is measured at 180mm.
