Malayalam film actor and BJP’s star campaigner Suresh Gopi has been nominated by the Centre as a Rajya Sabh member under arts category. The Central government had included Suresh Gopi among the list of artists to be nominated to the Rajya Sabha. Gopi also told media that the position was a gift from the Prime Minister to the people of Kerala. He also said that he will give importance to environmental development.

He had earlier politely refused to stand as BJP’s party candidate from Thiruvananthapuram constituency in the upcoming Kerala Assembly elections on May 16. Later, the party fielded former cricketer Sreesanth to the position. He was also considered for the post of chairman of the Nation Film Development Corporation. Gopi will also accompany Prime Minister Narendra Modi in a campaign tour of the state and also share the podium with him.

Gopi earlier reportedly said that although he would like to work for the country, he would not want to serve the people through politics and hence turned down BJP’s offer.
